Liberty Green Community Center wins 2010 Kentuckiana Masonry Institute Brick Award of Honor

November 20, 2011

Liberty Green Community Center has received the highest award given by the Kentuckiana Masonry Institute for an all-brick project.

This mixed-use project completed in October 2010 for the Louisville Metro Housing Authority was an exercise in contextual recognition, high-tech innovation, and sensitive detailing. The building was recently certified LEED Silver.

Comments from the award jury include:

•The brick band details are impressive. Well executed details in a simple building form.

•The implementation of simple horizontal detailing and varying bond patterns create a dynamic yet quiet vocabulary.

•Sincere attention has been paid to brick patterning, resulting in a cohesive project.

•While somewhat unassuming from the macro view, the closer one gets to this project the more the beautiful detailing and patterning becomes apparent.
